  • Real Estate Investing for Engineers
May 16, 2012
Boxed Post with Sidebar

In reviewing my database, I’ve found that over 40% of  my mentoring clients are engineers.  This does not surprise me, because engineers often make the transition to real estate investor for a number of reasons:

1. Analytical Thinking

Engineers are analytical thinkers, good with numbers, systems and analysis following a proven method.  Real estate investing (at least the way I teach it) is a formula-driven business.  If you can follow a formula or system, you can be a successful investor.

2. Mathematics

Real estate often involves math, which is a breeze for the typical engineer.  Excel spreadsheets are in the DNA of the engineer.

3. Unlimited Income Potential

Engineers generally make a good living, but their income is often capped in their position.  Real estate is an unlimited income potential business, which allows the engineer to supplement or replace his J.O.B. (“just over broke”) income with a better (higher) source of income.

4. Retirement Planning

If you work for a company you probably have a 401(k), but it’s limited to the stock and bond markets.  If you can invest some money in real estate, you can bolster your retirement by many times.

5. Something Else to Do

Let’s face it, the day job of an engineer may get boring.  Real estate involves both creative and technical thinking and overcoming challenges.
